Congratulations to our winner for the 2009 event, Paul Watson! Paul is a spec ops vet now and finished 3rd in our first event and came back to this year’s event with one goal in mind, to win. Nice job, stud.
We had a lot of fun at McP’s in Coronado and we are finishing up production on this year’s video. We will be posting pics and making a couple changes to the site soon. We will have donors and sponsors sorted out by state so you can see who in your hometown is representing. It is free advertising for them but it shows you that they care about taking care of our peeps. When you go back home make sure you stop by their place of business and tell them thanks for the support.
We have been contacted by several new sponsors and companies offering us gear to test for our Navy Diver Olympics Approved stamp. We are going as fast as we can and will get back to each and every one of you as soon as possible. If you would like to submit gear for NDO Approval please use the “contact us” link and we will get back to you regarding testing. NDO Approved means we have reviewed your gear and deem it worthy for the absolute best to wear, use or enjoy. If you send us wood we will send it back, promise.
The event this year will be changed up to add a run and swim to the “Toughest 10 minutes in Coronado.” Check back for details.
Paul Watson has called in and announced that he will be at this year's event. Watch out!
We will be out in Coronado again here in a couple weeks for the 2nd Annual Navy Diver Olympics. McP’s has been pouring cold ones and serving good hot meals to thousands of Spec War/Op personnel over the decades. We also congratulate Jessica on her new baby. Jessica mentioned she would be happy to throw in some tasty beverages as a show of support. Like most things anymore there is liability to be concerned about. Obviously, no alcohol prior to participation in the event. We aren’t going to be standing there with breathalyzers but if you smell like beer, or other, you have graduated to a spectator.
There were several mail pieces that went out to many different commands in the San Diego, CA area. If you received a letter, saw a poster or flier please post it in the passageway, locker room or other visible place as there is a slim possibility an extremely tough individual onboard might not be aware of the contest yet. The records have been set. The rumor going around is that Tiko might be extracted from some place around the globe and flown into the event covertly to defend his crown and pimp slap you with his 20 foot hand. Please review the record board before commenting. Don’t be scared just bring it on bad or don’t even bother. A special shout out to Chris Osman of SOG Knives who donated a box of very cool engraved knives and multi tools. Also another shout goes out to Vince and Eric at ESS for sponsoring again and giving us more kickass sunglasses for the event. Top 12 get knives, tools and hats from SOG and a sweet pair of ESS shades. $1,000 split for top 3 overall scores. $500, $300, $200. Just like last year. Plus, this year there will be an extra $100 for any record breaker. Lunges was added this year so if you win and do the most we will shoot you an extra $100 for the effort. I am telling you now, “STUDY THE NAVY DIVER TRIVIA OR YOU WILL GET BURNED IN THE END, PROMISE”
After assisting with our local Navy Seal Fitness Challenge last month we agreed it would be best if we let potential future candidates enter in the event. There is only one thing better than Navy Divers and that is the next generation of Navy Divers. Minimum age for civilians is 18 years of age. Last year’s inaugural event has set the pace and the records. The events are documented on video and available for free with a hat, shirt and coffee cup for the first 20 entrants to this year’s contest. The records are posted on our site. If you are good enough to beat any of these records we should talk about your future.
US Navy Seal Lt. Dan Cnossen finished 2nd last year in our annual event and is a current Navy Diver Olympics record holder. We would like to take a moment to honor one of our brothers who was recently wounded in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, Dan stepped on a PPIED (Pressure Plate Improvised Explosive Device) and was wounded. He was safely evacuated and is recovering. This year’s event will be held in honor of Lt. Cnossen.
Please take a moment to remember Dan and all of our service members who put their own lives in jeopardy so we may enjoy the lives that we do.
Get Well Soon, Dan!
I would like to take a moment to thank two new sponsors for our upcoming event this year, SOG Knives from Lynwood, Washington and Tactical Assault Gear from San Diego, California. These companies have been supplying high end gear to the community for years. It is an honor to have them aboard and we appreciate their commitment to our cause.
Thanks again.
There have been many hits to the site requesting information about the event and when we are coming out again. We will be holding the 2nd Annual Navy Diver Olympics. again at McP’s this winter. We thank Sue and her team at Danny’s for all the support for our mission. We will be contacting several vendors who have relationships with the diving community as a whole for sponsorship and donations. We know there are several vendors in the current flat economy who have surplus gear and are looking for a great way to give back. If you or your company would like more information about sponsorship you may contact us on the website and we will be happy to discuss in further detail.
Our objective is to give back as much cash and gear to the guys as possible. If you think your company’s gear is good enough to be used by the best than this is an opportunity for you to make sure members of our community our actually using, testing or wearing your gear. We will also make sure everyone knows about your commitment to our heroes by posting your logo under our sponsors page. The guys love the gear and it is the easiest way to say thank you and a guaranteed way to get the absolute best performance out of our contestants too. There will never be an entry fee for our contestants so the event itself is driven completely by your donations and the generosity of those who are committed to the community in general.
The store will be opening soon and we will have the video done shortly, we promise.
Although we never met, we at Navy Diver Olympics would like to acknowledge the passing of another warrior who has put himself in harm’s way to protect all of us. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends and team mates of Chief Petty Officer Eric Shellenberger who died from the events surrounding a diving evolution in Puget Sound. Rest in Peace. You will not be forgotten.

We give 5% of your donations and purchases to www.woundedeodwarrior.org for one reason:
It is the right thing to do. Let’s face it, most don’t even know what the initials EOD stand for; until their services are needed. The navy alone has lost 11 EOD personnel throughout the current Iraq/Afghanistan war. In honor of their memory we are listing the names of all EOD personnel from all branches of service killed in action during the current Iraq/Afghanistan war. EOD technicians perform thousands of flawless operations without recognition. Their expertise has rendered safe millions of pounds of ordnance and cleared countless IED’s in Iraq/Afghanistan. They continue to do so every single day. However, sometimes things go wrong. One can only imagine the reality of living through a bomb blast.
Wounded EOD Warrior is a non profit organization that provides financial assistance to families of wounded EOD technicians through no questions asked grants. It is our objective to help fund this mission.
