Navy Diver Olympics 3 Post Game

What a fantastic event we had Saturday night at SealFit Fitness Center Encinitas, CA. Owner, Mark Devine, and his team of Josh, Christine and Trevor were instrumental in pulling off the best event we have done to date. The SealFit facility itself is fantastic. Mark’s leadership and vision is supported by a dedicated and talented staff of industry professionals. NDO 3 featured the current champion and holder of every single record Tiko Crofoot and his lovely fiancé, Stefani Pito, challenging all comers to the toughest 10 minutes on their own compound.

Tiko is Hungry

My brother in arms was just in touch and let me know that not only do you stand no chance in hell of beating him, as he has been humping the routine for weeks in preparation, he requests that you bring your whole family out with their video camera so they can document the day you humiliated your entire family tree in 10 minutes…..Are you serious? Is this guy really saying there is no one in the world that can beat him at this routine…??? And no female can beat his girl at it either? Tiko put his own $1,000 on the female division. I have had my money behind this cat for years now.

We would like your Mare Island input now!

There have already been several who have inquired about Curtis’s accident and the contamination on Mare Island. We must honestly say we too were even surprised by the volume of people who have contacted us personally, or anonymously, with their own personal health story related to their tenure on Mare Island. We want to provide a forum for individuals who have been exposed to extremely dangerous levels of hexavalent chrome from hazardous chemicals, lead paint contamination from sand blasted ships, exposure to radioactive dumping and the disposal of ammunition on Mare Island.

Senator Tom Harkin Joins the Cause

A week or so ago I was contacted by the Senator’s office regarding my plight. A young woman asked me what it is that I needed help with. I explained my ongoing saga with recovering specific medical records related to a 1991 military diving accident while stationed at EODMU9 on Mare Island, CA. A VA psychologist, psychiatrist and I have been denied access to the exact records that have to do with the exact injury the VA is paying me a disability check for. Who in the hell tells you, “Yes, you were involved in a serious accident.

2011

Sorry it has taken so long to get the blog updated but we have been a little busy working on uploading videos, researching videos and making our 2011 video for the troops. We wanted to thank all the participants this year in the Hawkeye Invitational. We had a ton of vendors, sponsors, friends and contestants participate this year. We would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to some folks who really did some great work behind the scenes.

The Ship Store

If you haven’t noticed we have opened the store in time for all of your tough guy gear. We have spent the last year buying, testing and rating the gear we thought was most worthy of an initial resale. We did our absolute best to get the rock bottom prices on the best gear. We always ship free of charge to all FPO/APO addresses. You guys out there in the field and in the fleet deserve the best gear and we are here to help you locate it for the best prices. All of our products come with a lifetime warranty. We don’t care what the manufacturer says.

UK vs USA

We sent our friends on the other side of the Atlantic some T-shirts just to reach out and say thanks for all they do and to offer up the challenge. We have received an email from one Lt. CMDR Richard “Soapy” Watson from RN Clearance Divers in the UK who states that the Brits have some tough clearance divers who would be willing to take our $1,000. Now when I think of the UK I am thinking Mick Jagger, Elton John, Boy George and George Michael. OK lets throw in James Bond too. But none of these guys could even complete the toughest 10 minutes on Coronado ….except for maybe Sean Connery.

Slap Down at the Swimming Pool

Lately I have been hanging around with the family at the new University of Iowa Recreation Center in Iowa City. This 3 story facility is an impressive gesture from the University of Iowa and I must say it is one of the most fun things in my life right now. In short, nothing makes me feel like a kid more than swimming with my kids. Coasting down the lazy river with goggles on at about 1-2 knots is great fun. The kids and I jump off the same diving boards the Hawkeye dive team uses. I must say I am proud of my son’s ability to retrieve objects in the water.

Attention all Divers and Wanna-bees

Recently I was in a sports bar here in Iowa when an individual asked me a little bit about my time in the navy. I mentioned I was an EOD diver for a couple years. I explained we dove a MK 16 rebreathing rig and practiced mine counter measures. This clown smirked and said, “Yeah, Yeah I am a PADI Master Diver.” I asked if he had ever dove a rebreather. He replied, “Oh that stuff is kitty litter.

Seals Killed in Afghanistan

Navy Diver Olympics would like to extend our gratitude and condolences to the families of these fine young men. These men of honor have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We will raise their names to the top of the list of our fallen heroes link once we know their class numbers.
